St. Joseph Elementary Invites You to “Information Night” on Oct 26th

By Sponsored Content October 22, 2017

St. Joseph Elementary School, located in Needham, MA, invites parents to their Information Night on Thursday, October 26th at 7:00 p.m. to learn more about its mission, curriculum, school community, and newly renovated building.

St. Joseph Elementary School just completed ‘Phase One’ of a $3 million renovation project. Thanks to the generosity of school families, alumni, parishioners, and other donors, the lower level of the school has been transformed, including the cafeteria, library, music/drama space and STREAM (science • technology • religion • engineering • arts • math) classroom.

One of the favorites amongst the students, STREAM is a problem-based, cross-curricular approach to learning that provides students, Pre-K through Grade 5, with the opportunity to build critical thinking skills, and make connections among school, community, and the world, within a hands-on supportive environment. The STREAMworks Lab is a fun, interactive space, designed for collaboration. Desks and tractor swivel chairs can reconfigure, Idea Paint walls can be drawn on, dry-erase table tops can be sketched on, the drafting table and light tables can be used to design and form ideas. It’s a space that encourages hands-on creative learning.

The school is adding new educational initiatives every day, but the renovated space gives St. Joe’s the ability to enhance academics and enrichment programs. It’s updated building brings new innovation, learning, and imagination to students. The project includes a new cafeteria, known as “The HUB,” which is the centerstone of the renovation and a place students gather for lunch, as well as presentations, and assemblies. Known for it’s music and drama programs, including its beloved Kindergarten Nativity, and 4th grade and 5th grade play productions, the music classroom was re-designed to include a “mini stage” for performaces in a smaller setting. The STREAM classroom and a new climate-controlled library now share a glass wall to foster collaboration and idea sharing. Additionally, new lighting, additional storage, and other renovations have been placed throughout the school as well. ‘Phase Two’ of the project will begin in the summer of 2018 with a new playground for Grade 1-5 students, as well as an outdoor amphitheater for the parish’s 6th – 8th grade students at Monsignor Haddad Middle School to share with the elementary school.
